Rotor

Technology / Motors / Rotor: The rotating member of an induction motor made up of stacked laminations. A shaft running through the center and a squirrel cage made in most cases of aluminum which holds the laminations together and act as a conductor for the induced magnetic field. The squirrel cage is made by casting molten aluminum into the slots cut into each lamination.

Locked Rotor Current

Technology / Motors / Locked Rotor Current: Steady state current taken from the line with the rotor at standstill (at rated voltage and frequency). This is the current seen when starting the motor and load. MORE

Wound Rotor Induction Motor

Technology / Motors / Wound Rotor Induction Motor: A wound rotor induction motor is an induction motor in which the secondary circuit consists of polyphase winding or coils whose terminals are either short circuited or closed through suitable circuits MORE

Rotorcraft

Technology / Aviation / Rotorcraft: A heavier-than-air aircraft that depends principally for its support in flight on the lift generated by one or more rotors. Includes helicopters and gyroplanes. MORE
