Phosphorous

Business / Machine Shop / Phosphorous: A highly reactive, toxic, nonmetallic element used in steel, glass and pyrotechnics. It is almost always found in combination with other elements such as minerals or metal ores. Found in steel and cast iron as an impurity. In steel it is reduced to 0.05% or less otherwise phosphorous causes embrittlement and loss of toughness, however small amounts in low-carbon steel produce a slight increase in strength and corrosion resistance.
