Zierfandler

Life Style / Wine Grapes / Zierfandler: Recent DNA analysis indicates derivation from the Roter Veltliner crossed with a currently unknown variety that has strong resemblance to the Traminer. Has several synonym names, including Sp?trot in Austria, Cirfandli in Hungary and Zirifahnler. Reported to have a low tolerance of drought conditions. Contrary to some reports there is no evidence that this variety has any relationship whatsoever to the Zinfandel grape of California.
