Life Style / Wine Grapes / Lutie: According to the Geilweilerhof database (above) this cultivar is classified as a North American V. Labrusca derived from the Dracut Amber O.P. variety, although Hedrick ('Grapes of New York, 1912) lists it as a chance seedling found in Tennesee around 1885. Once fairly commonly grown in the Northeast region of the USA: though regarded by some as having little merit because of its poor keeping ability, developing such strong foxiness of flavor and aroma after a few days as to be scarcely edible. It can currently (1999) be found in certain U.S. North Central states where it is claimed to make a better showing. Generally ripens about a week earlier than Concord. Produces berries with light-dark red skins. No other information as yet.
