St Stephens Day

Life Style / Holiday / St Stephens Day: March 17, the anniversary of the death of St. Patrick, is the day the Irish celebrate being Irish. Although St. Patrick is likely from England or Wales he lived in Ireland about the same time as St. David. He is said to have been captured by pirates at the age of 16 and held as a slave for six years. The Irish claim him as a patron saint because he spread Roman Catholicism throughout Ireland. Shamrocks are associated with St. Patrick's Day because they represent the Christian idea of the Holy Trinity: God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
