Entertainment / Literature / Supine: A supine verb form is one that is not fully conjugated. For instance, the subjunctive mood is often supine in modern English (Had he been dancing, he would have would have tripped'), and thus easily confused with the pluperfect indicative (He had been dancing when he tripped.') Other languages would express the distinction with markedly different verb forms between the subjunctive and the indicative.
