Science / Spiders / Correspondence Analysis (CA): a multivariate statistical analysis technique, used to analyze patterns of variation in an image data set. Together with principal component analysis, CA belongs to the eigenvector methods of ordination. In electron microscopy, the technique is used to (A) reduce the dimensionality of the data set, so that automated methods of classification are facilitated: or (B) obtain an immediate inventory of the different components of variability (e.g., depth of staining, rocking of a molecule, presence or absence of a domain, conformational variability).
